Text Box: Text Box: Fire leg tarantula – Brachhypelma boehmei

The fire leg tarantula, like other tarantulas, do posess a defense mechanism. This is to flick its urticating (burning sensation) bristles at perceived attackers. These bristles are loosely attached and bedecked with varying patterns of backward pointing barbs. When this bristle penetrates skin or mucus membranes it causes harsh irritation. Tarantulas will use their fangs in defense. They have the ability to decide if they want to inject poison or not so the attack could be a dry bite. If attacked (in defense) by a tarantula please consult your General Practitioner (GP).
